August 29 was a day of ups and downs for Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper. In the 4th and 6th innings, he smashed a HR. In the 9th inning, Steve Cishek got into a double play situation with one out. The score was 8-4 thanks to Washington, so it didn’t care. He hustled so hard it was a tight match. The umpire said Cishek won. Harper threw his batting helmet and then he got ejected from the game. Davey Johnson didn’t like Harper’s reaction. Then the very next day, Harper hit a homer. I’m glad it even went over the fence. It almost went through the fence. Today can Harp do it again? He’ll face Adam Wainwright, so it’ll be tough! Nats 8 STL 1.
On August 5th Miami Marlins righty Ricky Nolasco faced off against Stephen Strasburg at Nationals Park in Southeast DC. The Nationals won 4-1. The two pitchers faced off again at Marlins Park in Downtown Miami. It was horrible for Nats Fans. They lost by a mile. I feel sorry for Strasburg, who has the Strasmeter at 150.1 innings pitched. How will Giancarlo Stanton Bobblehead night turn out for the Nationals? I’ll tell you tomorrow. Nats News Braves 2 Padres 0 Washington 0 Miami 9.
I’m wondering if Chicago Cubs pitcher Chris Volstad would ever get a win. You know that someone like Cole Hamels can get out there and win every single time, right? That is not the words to describe teammate Rafael Dolis and Volstad. He took the mound on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies and just dominated. The cool thing was that he did when the rain was FALLING in the Windy City.

If Roger Clemens got out of all of this drug stuff and returned to baseball, what would you do? Maybe watch ESPN. If you did last night you saw Roger Clemens’ debut with the Sugar Land Skeeters. That’s a minor league (AA) team in Texas. He struck out 5, walked none, over 2 2/3 innings pitched. Yep, Roger Clemens who pitched for the Yankees and Red Sox in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

I don’t know why 7/31 is the trade deadline. The Oakland Athletics traded catcher Kurt Suzuki to the Washington Nationals for catcher David Freitas. On 8/3/12. Now there is a BLOCKBUSTER deal between LA and Boston. Adrian Gonzalez ( nicknamed A-Gone because he hits a lot of home runs), Nick Punto, Josh Beckett, and Carl Crawford could be traded to the LA Dodgers for 3 minor leaguers, including Rubby De La Rosa, and James Loney. I think it is a super weird choice by the 4th place Boston Red Sox to trade all of their good players to the zoo at the 2nd place Dodgers. The Dodgers already have so many good players! The Red Sox only good players are Dustin Pedroia and Pedro Ciriaco, since Will Middlebrook’s hand broke getting hit by a pitch by the Indians’ Zach McAllister.

The first half stunk for the Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox. None knew what would happen on August 23.
The best game of July was on 7/17 in Washington D.C. when Jordany Valdispin hit a 3-run home run to get the Mets the lead, but Pedro Beato threw a wild pitch and Ryan Zimmerman scored and the Nationals walked off.
In August, this has to be the game of the month and/or year. Boston scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, but LA scored EIGHT runs in the top of the 3rd. In the 9th it was tied 12-12 and Kendrys Morales hit a solo jack to Pesky’s Pole in RF and the Angels won 14-13.
Since the Nationals had a day off last night, I’ll tell you the Braves-Giants score.

1991 was the last time the Chicago White Sox swept the New York Yankees. Chicago’s manager Robin Ventura went 4-8 with 2 RBI in that series. That’s how long ago. 2012 could be the next time the Sox swept. The South Siders won the first two games, and their ace Chris Sale was given the ball. The bombers have never faced Sale, and Sale has never faced the bombers. So would the Sox sweep the Yankees? Indeed. Sale got 13 K’s and got his 15th win of 2012.

I got to go to a really important game! The Jr Nats Kids Club lets kids 12 and under do special things, like watch BP from the warning track. I did that. I commentated on the hits. Jason Heyward was C-R-U-S-H-I-N-G big balls into the last row of the Red Porch and Loft in CF. Too bad the Nats didn’t take BP because they played extra innings the night before.
When they played 7 Nation Army by the White Stripes, Stephen Strasburg tossed his warmup pitches. His top speed all night was 99 mph. He was Grreat! By the end of the game, The Strasmeter was at 145.1 innings pitched. In the 2nd inning, Ian Desmond launched a big,big fly ball for a Home Run even in the rain. In top 3 Umpire Dana Demuth called it a delay. We were delayed for 51 minutes. Then, in the Bottom 5, Jesus Flores, the backup catcher, hit a 3-run jack that the left fielder missed and the ball rolled back onto the field. Tyler Clippard got a save as the Nats won.
Ryan Mattheus tossed a ball to me! He is a relief pitcher who throws 94 miles per hour!

The Atlanta Braves rocked the 1990’s while the Montreal Expos stunk. In 2012, though, the Philadelphia Phillies entered with 5 straight years of postseason play. You can’t say that anymore. THE PHILLIES STINK! But the Nationals have gone from worst to first, as “Ignite your Natitude” helps them win. The Phillies have gone from first to worst this year.
It is a close race to the finish between the Nats and the second place Atlanta Braves. The folks in the capital city are talking about the Nats. And Chipper Jones is making his last career regular season game at Nationals Park. Zimmermann last night, Stras tonight. That’s a tough way for Chipper to go out.
In last night’s game, Chad Tracy hit a walk-off RBI single in the wild 13 inning game last night. I think Cristian Martinez gave it up. Ian Desmond launched a 2-run jack in to the deep part of the newly coated Sam Adams ad bullpen in the night sky. A 56 minute rain delay stopped the game to start at 8:01 PM. I WAS THERE (but not til the very end). And guess who’s going back tonight to watch BP from the field?
